what Common Cables collects, why, who else sees it, and how to change it. Common Cables is a service of Performant Manufacturing, LLC, San Diego, California.

what we collect

  • when you order: your name, email address, phone number and shipping address; the cables you configured — connectors, wiring, lengths, any label text and any part number of your own; and what you paid. card details go straight to Stripe. we never see or store your card number.
  • in your own browser: your cart, whether you picked the dark theme, and — if you arrived from a search, a link or one of our ads — where you came from: the link's tag, Google's ad click id if there was one, the page you landed on and the site that sent you. all of it stays in your browser. the note of where you came from expires after 90 days, and it reaches us only when you place an order.
  • “how did you hear about us?” — your answer, if you tap one.
  • page visits, counted anonymously by our host, without cookies.
  • server logs: like every website, our host records requests to the site, including IP addresses, to keep it running and protect it.
  • suggestions typed into “what should we build next?” reach us with nothing that identifies you.

how we use it

to build and ship your cables; to contact you about your order; to calculate sales tax and keep business and tax records; to prevent fraud and keep the site working; and to learn which searches, links and ads bring customers to us.

who else sees it

we don't sell personal information. we share only what each service needs to do its job for us:

  • Stripe takes your payment, calculates sales tax and emails your receipt.
  • ClickUp is where the shop tracks your order.
  • Vercel hosts the site and counts visits.
  • UPS gets your name and address to deliver your order.
  • Google, only if you came from one of our Google ads: we may tell Google Ads that the click led to an order, using the ad's click id.

and anyone the law requires us to tell.

tracking across other sites, and “do not track”

we don't use advertising trackers or tracking cookies, and we don't let other companies collect information through this site about what you do across other websites. because nothing here follows you from site to site, a browser's “do not track” signal changes nothing: every visitor is treated the same way.

how long we keep it

order records for as long as we need them to finish the job and keep business and tax records. the note in your browser of where you came from expires after 90 days, and clearing this site's data in your browser removes it and your cart at once.

seeing, changing or deleting your information

email commoncables@performantmfg.com and we'll tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it — except records we're required to keep, such as for tax.

children

this site is for businesses and adults buying cables. it isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

changes to this policy

when it changes, we update this page and the date at the top. if a change affects information we already hold, we'll say so here.
