Questions

about D-sub to ferrules.

can I order just one?
yes, there's no minimum quantity, but there is a $40 order minimum. one DB9 D-sub with 12 in (305 mm) ferruled leads comes to $34.07, so an order of just that is $40; add more and the minimum is covered. shipping is free (UPS 2-day). prices drop at 10 and 50 units.
which ferrule goes on each lead?
the ferrule follows the wire gauge, and its collar color is McMaster-Carr's, not a standard color code: 20 AWG takes orange (7950K161), 22 AWG takes gray (7950K14), 24 AWG takes aqua (7950K45). the prices above are at 22 AWG, so gray.
can I put ferrules on only some of the leads?
yes. the prices above put one on every lead. in the configurator's rewire panel each loose lead is either a plain flying lead or "flying lead + ferrule", and you pay only for the ferrules you use.
how is each end made?
the D-sub end is soldered: the shell comes with solder-cup contacts built in, and each wire is soldered into its cup with lead-free solder. the ferrules on the loose ends are crimped.
which hood is on the connector?
plastic hood or metal hood, your choice in the configurator. the prices above are with the plastic hood hood; it's included and fitted on every connector, and each size's page has the hood part numbers.
can the connector end be a plug instead?
yes, on the sizes where we stock the plug (DB9, DB15). the prices above are for the receptacle; switch the gender in the configurator and it reprices.
what wire gauges and lengths?
20, 22, 24 AWG UL1007 hook-up wire with a ferrule to match, any length, 5–48 in (127–1219 mm). the prices above are at 22 AWG.
how fast does it ship?
it's built and shipped in 10 business days, then goes out UPS 2-day.
